Barbara A. Todd
Barbara Todd is the Director of Advanced Practice at Hospital University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and also the Director of the CMS Graduate Nurse Education Demonstration Project. She also serves as clinical faculty for Acute Care NP students at University of Pennsylvania.
She began her career as a nurse practitioner in 1984 with her first NP position in cardiac surgery at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania. She then pursued an administrative and clinical role as the program director for the cardiac and thoracic surgery program at Temple University from 1989 to 2003, where she developed the inpatient NP model. She returned to Penn in 2003 as the Director for Advanced Practice Providers in the Department of Surgery. She has lectured extensively on issues in cardiac care and Nurse practitioners model of care. She has been a nurse practitioner for the past 30 years with a focus on cardiac surgery with a specialty interest in valvular heart disease. She has published extensively and presented nationally on advanced practice clinical and administrative topics. She has published numerous articles and authored a certification review book for students preparing for the acute care nurse practitioner exam. She is certified in both family practice and acute care.
She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Thomas Jefferson University in 2010. Her DNP project focus was on transition to NP practice. She is a fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, past leadership roles in Philadelphia Area NP group; member of Pennsylvania Advanced Practice Alliance and American College of Cardiology.
