Chris Collado

Chris Collado currently serves as the Director of Advanced Practice for Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He is also the Lead Instructor for the Dual-Option Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at the UMMC School of Nursing (Jackson, MS). Prior to this, Chris served as the Lead APP for Pediatric Critical Care where he currently serves as a critical care NP. In addition to his PICU clinical duties, Chris also functions as an APP for the Pediatric Congenital Heart service, Pediatric ED, and, most recently, as an APP Hospitalist at a satellite general pediatric unit in North Mississippi. From 2009 to 2011, Chris provided primary care serving as a FNP in an internal medicine/pediatric clinic. As a staff nurse, Chris served as the Clinical Nurse Educator for the Pediatric ICU at Batson Children’s where he organized orientation for new nurses and continuing education for existing staff. His nursing experience includes working with both adult and pediatric clients in a vast array of practice settings including medical/surgical, emergency department, and ICU.

Chris is the co-chair for the Advanced Practice Provider Council at UMMC. This council serves as administrative support for APPs at UMMC. He is active on many other committees that are responsible for administrative and clinical oversight of both inpatient and ambulatory practice at UMMC. He is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association and is a frequent guest lecturer at local and state-wide conferences.

Chris received his MSN graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi Medical Center (nursing) and was awarded the Jay Waits Graduate Student of the year. He was certified as a FNP in 2009. Chris then completed another MSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (nursing) where he was awarded the Primary and Acute Pediatric Care Nurse Practitioner Graduate Student of the year. He was then dual-board certified in Pediatric Acute and Pediatric primary care in 2013.

Chris is an exercise enthusiast participating in forms ranging from weight training to classical ballet. As a father of four, other activities are few though he enjoys traveling to exotic locations and is always ready for an adventure.
