Jennifer DerKazarian is an acute care cardiac electrophysiology nurse practitioner at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. She started her career in nursing in 1992 as a patient care associate in the ICU/ER at Maine General Hospital. She worked throughout college at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY and then here in Boston at Beth Israel Hospital as a patient care associate in the inpatient and outpatient PACU. She then worked as an RN at the Virginia Commonwealth University Hospitals in Cardiac Surgery/transplant and served as the lead primary pulmonary hypertension educator, Flolan® coordinator. She was asked to join the Cardiology group as a nurse practitioner in 1999 as an inpatient nurse practitioner rotating through the cardiac catheterization lab, electrophysiology lab, and ward services. From there, she returned to Boston to work as a nurse practitioner at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Cardiology for a short time prior to joining her current practice at Lahey Clinic in 2002. She has served on many educational committees, and written numerous patient education pieces. Jen also served as a preceptor for MGH Institute, BC, and UMass NP students. In 2012 Jen became the inaugural Director of Advanced Practice Nursing. In this role she oversees the professional practice concerns of the Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Anesthetists, and Clinical Nurse Specialists for Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. She just completed her DNP in 2014 and her research focused on an organizational climate assessment of NPs and PAs across the organization in all settings.
Jen has a BS with honors from Union College in 1995, and graduated from MGH Institute of Health Professions with an MSN, ANP in 1999.
Along with her career in nursing, Jennifer has held many volunteer positions in local non-profit organizations. She served on the Executive Board for the Carlisle Kids House as Executive Vice President from 2007-2009, and concurrently organized and re-launched the Carlisle Parents Connection (503c). Prior to embarking on a career in nursing, Jennifer was a Medical Writer for Total Learning Concepts in Boston, Massachusetts, and worked in varied allied health roles including EMT and surgical technician.
