Tara Merck is the Director of Advance Practice Providers for the Children’s Specialty Group. The Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) is the pediatric specialty practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Tara additionally functions as pediatric nurse practitioner with over 20 years experience in the hematology/oncology realm. She began her career at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in 1993 and in 2011, relocated to Milwaukee to join Children’s of Wisconsin/CSG/Medical College as the Director of Advanced Practice Providers.
As the Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Tara is dedicated to promote and advocate the role of all nurse practitioners and physician assistants. She is working closely all members of the practice group within the Medical College along with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin administrative leaders to optimize APP scope while bringing transparency to the many contributions of the APP’s role.
Since 2009, Tara has had the unique privilege of functions as an editor since 2009 for the Wong’s Essentials of Pediatric Nursing textbook chapter, Family-Centered Care of the Child During Illness and Hospitalization. Tara is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Oncology Nurse’s Society. She is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner through the pediatric certification nursing board and is a certified pediatric hematology oncology nurse. She is licensed in the state of Wisconsin as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber and as a registered nurse.
In addition to her full time role at the Medical College, Tara is married and the mother of two children. Along with spending time with her family, Tara enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and exploring international cuisines.
