Advanced Practice Fellowship

The APP fellowship will provide advanced didactic education with focused clinical experience to prepare Advanced Practice Providers to provide optimal care to patients with congenital heart disease across the life span. This program will provide integrated learning opportunities within the Heart Center at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and APP fellows will receive training and experience with focus on all cardiac and CICU aspects. The goal of the program is to program is to provide APPs with depth, breadth, volume, and intensity of clinical training to independently manage children with congenital or acquired heart disease. This would include but is not limited to all congenital heart diagnoses and acquired cardiac diagnoses, CICU and Step Down patient management, and exposure to other clinical departments within the Heart Center. Those who are successful will receive a certificate of completion from Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital CICU Fellowship and will be prepared to work independently in a pediatric CICU setting.

The Advanced Practice Fellow works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to obtain further knowledge in the specialty of Cardiac Critical Care. S/he will learn evidenced based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities. S/he will learn to support advanced practice and leadership to promote the Center for Advanced Practice at Lurie Children’s and in the community-at-large. The role is unique to the Advanced Practice Providers specialty area and in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.
