The Advanced Practitioners for the River Region includes advanced health care providers such as nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), certified nurse midwives (CNMs), clinical nurse specialists, and students of these disciplines residing in the counties of the river regions of central Alabama including Montgomery, Lowndes, Elmore, Dallas, and Autauga.

APRR meetings are held the first Tuesday evening of each month and are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. Meetings are held at local restaurants and include a brief business meeting to discuss activities and progress toward meeting the purposes of the group, one of which is to provide programs presented by speakers with specific expertise that allow members to update their knowledge and learn about new treatments for health problems. Members attending receive continuing education credit that is required for recertification in their practice.

During the meetings, members also have the opportunity to dialogue and network with other advanced practitioners. Job opportunities and needs are addressed. Volunteerism and community involvement (e.g, health fairs) are encouraged and promoted. Information about legislative activity and involvement in legislative activity that impacts health care and advanced practitioners is encouraged.

APRR is a provider of continuing education approved by the Alabama State Nurses Association. With that provider status, APRR is an ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) recognized CE provider.
