Dr. Osman’s, from his Letter to the Editor opinion piece in Myrtle Beach Online, takes the position that healthcare teams should be physician-led. He is advocating for a bill in the South Carolina House (S.C. House Bill H.3508), also supported by the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA), that would lay out a “comprehensive plan for continued supervision of advanced practice nurses (APRN’s) in our state.”
His feelings behind championing physician-led teams are because less/no physician supervision and oversight of APRNs would:
a. “have a negligible effect on increasing access to care”
b. “also significantly impact the quality” [negatively]
c. “rob from the APRNs” a “close supervisory physician provider that can observe, critique, teach, and mentor”
