Mary Harris
APP Director, Professional Development and Education
Mary Ruth Harris is the APP Director for Professional Development and Education at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, UT. She is adjunct faculty for the University of Utah College of Nursing. She was the creator and served as the Director of the Intermountain Healthcare APP Post-Graduate Fellowship for Trauma Critical Care for six years. She served as the Secretary Treasurer for the Association for Post-Graduate Physician Assistant Programs for three years. She has worked in clinical roles for Intermountain Healthcare in Emergency Medicine, Trauma Critical Care, and currently works for the Intermountain Urological Institute.
Mary is very involved in physician and advanced practice onboarding and orientation and worked to create the Intermountain system-wide program for all new providers. She has developed a support system for orientation plans for all current specialty APP Directors. All APP post-graduate fellowship directors report to Mary and she assists with leadership development for the faculty and directors. She has interest and priority to develop an APP Professional Development program with opportunities for each APP to excel in clinical practice, education, research, continuous improvement, and leadership. Her other interests include professional development of the APP leader, FPPE/OPPE, and enhancing APP engagement and retention.
Mary is a member of the Utah Nurse Practitioners.
Mary completed her undergraduate studies at Utah State University and her MSN at Johns Hopkins University. She is board certified as a family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC) with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Mary loves the outdoors and is excited to report that her twins, Marlowe and Wyatt, are also developing that passion. In any spare time, she will be likely found trail running, skiing, teaching or taking Pilates classes, cycling, or avidly reading.
