Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky
EM APP Post-Graduate Training Program
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky began offering its Emergency Medicine (EM) Advanced Practice Provider post-graduate training program in the fall of 2017. The University of Kentucky is located in Lexington, Kentucky, and is only one of two academic tertiary care facilities in the entire state of Kentucky. It is also the only level-one adult and pediatric trauma center in the region.
The combined adult and pediatric emergency department cares for over 83,000 patients annually, including referrals from all of Central and Eastern Kentucky. The department has an established emergency medicine physician (EM) residency-training program since 1996 with 30 EM physician residents and 38 attendings. They currently have 23 APP’s working alongside the residents and faculty in the high volume, high acuity ED. The program is nationally known for its medical educators as well as an extensive EM ultrasound program with an EM fellowship-training program. They operate in a newly opened, state of the art Emergency Department. UK Medical Center is also a comprehensive stroke center, a cardiac catheterization center, and a National Cancer Institute affiliate.
