Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) have been practicing in Illinois since 1971. The first nurse-midwifery practice in Chicago was established at Cook County Hospital. Most CNMs in Illinois are in full-scope practices, providing care throughout the maternity cycle in addition to gynecology and family-planning services.
